Our History
ZE has developed a comprehensive support system specializing in regulatory, financial, statistical, and engineering analyses allowing the company to successfully handle multi-faceted projects. The company is composed of three integrated business units, Consulting, Engineering and Software Development.
The Consulting group was established in 1995 by Dr. Zak El-Ramly in order to provide the energy industry with executive level strategic analysis and planning combined with supplementary operational support. With the senior management team all equipped with previous executive-level experience at major utilities, the company was confident in its ability to provide services that would shape the market. Dr. El-Ramly, was a senior executive at Powerex and held many senior management positions at BC Hydro including forecasting, energy management, policy development and resource management. He was also an executive member of many industry organizations, such as the President of ASHREA, BC, President of the Power Marketing Association and member of the executive committee of the WSPP. He was also a member of the NYMEX Electricity Futures Advisory Board, which developed the specification for the first electricity futures.
ZE entered the IT realm in 1998 and has since developed the award-winning ZEMA™ Suite, the industry’s leading Enterprise Data Management and Analysis suite. ZEMA provides historical and real-time market data from various sources including energy data providers, exchanges, and climate agencies. ZE proprietary tools, models and data access augment ZE’s analytic capabilities.
Design engineering for the utility industry was integrated into ZE’s service offering in 1999 with the team comprised of seasoned energy industry professionals; and with senior personnel having held executive-level positions at major utilities.
ZE has been studying the energy markets in the Pacific Northwest US and Western Canada since before the restructuring of the Alberta market in 1995. As the company’s client base expanded through Canada and the US, its role grew to include a broader base of analysis and strategic support. ZE has accumulated extensive industry experience and a high level understanding of the market structure and business environment in Northern America.
ZE provides services to large industrial and commercial energy consumers, government and independent agencies, and public and utilities ranging from small municipal up to large regional entities.
